Service Projects forYouth is a week-long
mission adventure for middle and high school youth. Physically, we are a home repair ministry,
making homes safer, warmer and drier, for families who want our helping
hands. We divide your group into teams
of ten or less (less is better) of which at least two are adults. We encourage
each team to have a youth as a co-leader.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT:Twenty-five years ago I went on my first
mission trip. The only construction I
had ever done before that point was to help my dad build a small deck on the
back of our house. Five mission trips
later, my wife and I did some improvements to our small home. We added a second floor, four bedrooms, two
bathrooms, renovated the kitchen and built a wrap around deck. All because every year on the mission trip I gained knowledge and confidence as I was assigned new construction tasks... (and I discovered the secret -"There are no mistakes... only opportunities to learn.)
I can’t promise you that
you’ll go home and put on an addition.
What I can promise you
is that we will challenge you to reach outside
your comfort zone
as you grow in confidence and ability.
WHAT DO WE ACTUALLY DO? Our projects run from the simple to
engineering dilemmas. All projects are
equally important to the home owner, but some are a lot less stressful. Some examples of projects over the
last couple of years are: painting, roofing,
replacing gutters, yard work, bridge building, ramps, decks, wiring,
paneling, plumbing, flooring, supports, masonry, ceilings, leaky toilets,
furniture repair, clean out closets & basements….. Let’s just say, there is
very little that we won’t consider doing.
I HEAR YOU, BUT… This is your
first trip, you don’t have any skills (not possible), you don’t have any tools,
you are afraid of ladders…. Again, not to worry; WE have the tools, provide
training sessions, involve construction experts, spend time with you at the
work sites, realize you have to make a few mistakes in order to learn…..
SO NOW WHAT? Once you fill out your applicationand you are accepted, we will contact you one month prior to your
trip to ascertain your abilities and interests so that we can tailor fit the
project to your group. Seven to ten
days prior to your arrival we will inform you of your project and answer your
questions. It couldn’t be any easier.
